Poll: Americans more satisfied with USPS than with the Internet

acsiThe news media seems to take it as an article of faith that Americans are chronically dissatisfied with the postal service, and have happily switched to using the Internet for all of their communications needs.

So it may come as a surprise that a recent poll found that Americans are actually more satisfied with the USPS than they are with their internet service providers, social media, or cell phones. Internet service providers, in fact, ranked at the bottom of all industries for customer satisfaction.

It’s also worth noting that the same survey showed Americans seem to prefer public or non-profit organizations when they have the choice: credit unions are preferred over banks, and municipal or cooperative utilities over investor owned companies.

Which might make you wonder why it is that politicians and the news media seem to think privatizing public services is the answer to all our problems…
