NY letter carrier pleads guilty to eavesdropping on co-workers

A Watertown NY city carrier has pleaded guilty to eavesdropping on his coworkers:

John L. Sullivan, 50, of 1039 Bronson St., pleaded guilty to attempted eavesdropping. Mr. Sullivan, a U.S. Postal Service employee, was charged in July with placing a device in a postal vehicle so that he could listen in on a private conversation at the Watertown Post Office, 232 Commerce Drive. He was subsequently sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge and ordered to perform 100 hours of community service.

You have the full story, at least as far as the Watertown newspaper is concerned- the single paragraph is all they published on the case. If anyone has more information, by all means let me know. Eavesdropping is considered a “serious offense” pretty much everywhere- it’s a felony under US and New York law- and judges don’t usually give much consideration to why a criminal “felt he needed” to commit a particular crime. But it would be interesting to know why he did it!

I AGREE there has to be a reason why he would do it

Based on my extensive research (Google), a conditional discharge in NY is basically unsupervised probation. Presumably if he goes a year without re-offending, he won’t receive any punishment- although he will still have a conviction on his record.

I bet he is the steward ? Any takers?

  • HeWho SpeaksTruths

Thank you for clarifying that, it sounded like a STD.

Thank you for answering my question. I did not believe it was in relation to his employment. I figured it may have been related to the state charges against him although he is federally employed.

You fools can cry all you want that “it is the steward”…….I “reiterate”………fools. This guy is a first class management wanna-be. There can only be ONE reason this person did this. To gain more confidence from management, and, who knows……..maybe personal gain.

But, on the other hand, maybe this guy is spying on the wife’s possible boyfriend………..Any takers (sic)???
