Japan Post Holdings’ net profit inched up 1% to 482.6 billion yen ($4 billion) for the term ended March 31. But at mail subsidiary Japan Post Co., net profit fell by half, with its postal and parcels operation suffering its first operating loss in three years.
Filipinos can now avail of new "express" mail services from the Philippine Postal Corp. as it turned 23 on Monday.
This year’s anniversary has the theme “Express sa Bente Tres” to show PHLPost’s capability to deliver mails, parcels, and money transfers.
"PHLPost now pushes for express domestic delivery of mails and parcels, ensuring next-day delivery in identified committed areas all over the country. This improved service comes with a domestic mail tracking system and an SMS notification. Both features are programmed to provide delivery status updates," the agency said.
BENGALURU: A plea to sanction a fleet of dedicated aircraft for the Postal Department to deliver e-commerce shipments was made by M S Ramanujan, Chief Postmaster General (CPMG) of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala postal circles.
At a function organised at the GPO on Thursday, where Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad inaugurated five major initiatives for the Bengaluru Division and released a special cover on ‘Golden Chariot’, Ramanujam said the department’s e-commerce business in the last financial year had touched Rs 100 crore and it is slated to reach Rs 200 crore in 2015-2016. “With the booming air cargo business, we need dedicated aircraft for the transfer of air mail cargo,” he said. The department has been facing hurdles in using private airlines and Air India for the purpose, he added.
CHENNAI: After introducing auxiliary mail services in an attempt to salvage its sinking fortunes, India Post will now sell biscuits, photo frames and mugs. After opening in Bengaluru and Mysore, Chennai’s first Post Shoppe will come up at the head post office on Anna Salai next month.
Postmaster general Merwin Alexander said the store would also sell pens, markers, gum, books and souvenirs with the India Post logo.
It will be located next to the multiple counters for postal and banking operations, so that customers can pick up stationery, and more.
HYDERABAD: People holding accounts with a post office can now operate their accounts from any other post office and also online. The department of posts, AP Circle, launched Core Banking Services (CBS) on Thursday, offering online banking, mobile banking and SMS alerts. ATMs will be opened in another six months.
The services can be availed at 82 of the 95 Head Post Offices located in the sibling states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and the remaining 13 also will be shifted to the CBS platform by the first week of February.
Inaugurating the Core Banking Services, BV Sudhakar, chief postmaster-general, AP Circle, said that they would be enabling the CBS through 2,438 Sub Post Offices by June this year. ATMs will be opened in another six months.
He said post offices would also offer cashless service. People can use debit cards of any bank to draw cash up to Rs 1,000 at 63 post offices. Areas where there are no banks or ATMs will be given priority to launch the service.
