Postal giant TNT has created 500 new jobs in Liverpool.
The company has taken on staff to work across all L postcodes, delivering direct mail such as business mail which could include anything from bank statements to council tax bills.
Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson said he was thrilled at the investment the firm was bringing to the city
And the news was welcomed by employment minister Esther McVey, who said the new jobs would help people off benefits and into work.
But Royal Mail and union chiefs said they had reservations about the news, with Royal Mail saying it was wrong that TNT could “cherry-pick” work in different areas.
