Nebraska rural carrier saves neighborhood from blaze
Cambridge, NE, Rural Carrier Jack Brown was delivering mail when he noticed sparks from a chimney had spread to a hedge.
With winds of 50-60 mph, Brown realized he had to act quickly to save the customer’s home and two nearby houses. He called for help and kept the fire under control until firefighters arrived.
The homeowner was thankful that Brown helped save his house.
“Jack is a great carrier and goes out of his way to help his customers,” said Cambridge Postmaster Marilyn Hunter. “We had terrible conditions that day, with the wind blowing and brown-out conditions due to the dirt blowing. But he made all his deliveries that day, and he jumped right in to avoid a terrible fire.”
