Poll: Fewer Americans favor privatizing USPS

rasmussenThe conservative leaning Rasmussen polling organization says that the portion of Americans who favor privatizing the US Postal Service has shrunk to barely one third. The pollster found that just 35% of American adults favor privatization, down from 40% in 2011:

The U.S. Postal Service has been plagued with financial problems for years, but fewer adults now believe the federal government should sell the Postal Service. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 35% of American Adults think the U.S. government should consider selling the Postal Service to a private company in order to reduce the federal budget deficit. But that’s down from 40% in 2011. Forty-eight percent (48%) oppose such sale, while 17% are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The survey of 1,000 American Adults was conducted on December 28-29, 2013

HELLO???!!! The USPS is NOT part of the Federal Budget! It’s a private-quazi-govt.-regulated agency that receives NO tax dollars for support. Congress tacks on USPS’ retirement pensions (both the older CSRS & newer FERS are vastly OVER-funded) & health benefits (which they demand USPS pay 75 years in ADVANCE within a 10-yr. window, unlike any other fed. agency or private business) to the BACK-END of the Federal accounting sheet (read: unscrupulous accounting practices)…so it “LOOKS” as if the Fed. Deficit is reducing. It’s terrific that more folks favor preserving the USPS (as is) over the greed of possible privatization, but so many don’t realize the USPS is NOT part of the Fed. Budget, has NOT added to the Fed. Deficit, and NEED to know such info..

what “QuestionU” said and more-> seeing what happened at Christmas with fed ex and UPS…going private will NOT make it better…but more profit will be made for new PO…one stamp will NOT deliver EVERYWHERE….try getting your jewelry supplies or medical (pills and such) ..you WILL be paying big time..You live in AZ in the mountain with a row boxes?? Good luck !!..this would hurt NORMAL people…Rich people may grumble….but they will prob be owning a piece so it wont matter.
