CONLEY, Ga. – The manhunt is on for the gunman who shot and robbed a United State Post Office worker. Police are also searching for the postal truck the thief made off during that robbery.

Friday night, someone got into a secured area at the post office located in the 1300 block of Cedar Grove Road in Conley sometime between 7:15 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. They shot the postal worker then made off with the truck he was driving.

The driver of the truck wasn’t discovered for about a half hour. He was rushed to the hospital in critical conditions.

Postal inspectors say they believe the robber targeted the contract driver who spends his days driving between post offices. They aren’t saying if anything was in the truck at the time of the robbery, but the company that hires those drivers believes the robber was after Christmas presents.

I have always commented about the lack of security at Post Offices. While supervisors will write up carriers if they fail to lock their vehicle (even with nothing inside), anyone could scale the fence and get onto the grounds. Can you imagine the possibilities?
