Boston letter carrier shot in mail robbery attempt

BOSTON –A United States Postal Service worker was shot in Dorchester Friday night in a robbery attempt, Boston Police said.

The postal worker was shot near the Ashmont MBTA station on Bailey Street near Dorchester Avenue before 7 p.m.

The worker was in the rear of his mail truck when the shooter tried to steal mail and packages, police said. The two then got into a scuffle, and the postal worker was shot in the wrist.

After the postal worker jumped from the truck, the shooter then attempted to steal the mail truck but crashed into a snowbank and ran, police said.

The postal worker was taken to Boston Medical Center for treatment.
