FedEx Hikes Prices: America Shrugs

Fedex logoWhile mailers, politicians and pundits have been falling over each other to express their shock and outrage at the possibility that the US Postal Service might implement a price increase higher than the Consumer Price Index (currently about 1.7%), FedEx yesterday did exactly that- and America shrugged:

MEMPHIS, Tenn., Sept. 18, 2013—FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) will increase shipping rates for FedEx Express by an average of 3.9% for U.S. domestic, U.S. export and U.S. import services effective January 6, 2014.

The FedEx Ground and FedEx SmartPost pricing changes for calendar 2014 will be announced later this year.  FedEx Freight implemented a 4.5% general rate increase on July 1, 2013.

Details of changes that will be made to FedEx Express surcharges can be found at www.fedex.com/us/2014rates.

FedEx is proving they are in total control and don’t have to “ask permission from Father to increase their prices”. I say, more power to them!!! Gotta love the American way! 😉

It’s people like you, Ron Belcher, who let corporations like Apple, Nike, Ralph Lauren and so on–that market bullshit products based solely on “style” and “coolness,” made in Southeast Asian sweatshops–get away with marking up crap a 1000% before it even reaches a retail outlet.

      • R. Shackleford

I agree, but on the flip side, no-one is forcing you to buy these products. Just like I don’t plan to ever use Fedex.

The problem is that “most” people don’t care about the little asians working in sweatshops. They just want their electronic devices. People don’t care about the conditions in the abattoirs, they just want their steaks and burgers. You have the fringe people that are outspoken, but most folks simply don’t care.

just shows that many, if not most,Americans
are hypocrites when it comes to the PO. when FEDEX has an office in little rabbit and foggy flats, the we’ll talk.

          • Ron Belcher

Joe, you are “spot” on !!! Well said!

          • Ernest Spoon

Well, y’know what. I don’t live in Little Rabbit or Foggy Flatts. And the FedEx office here is not conveniently located and they don’t like to answer their phone.

        • Ernest Spoon

My original post went right over your head, didn’t it? I am referring to egregious profit margins of US marketing-firms, Apple, Nike, etc., masquerading as manufacturing-firms.

      • Ron Belcher

Where did you get that as a reply to what I said? I merely stated that.. while the USPS (having to request a rate raise), FedEx does not. So, in saying this, you are wrong in accusing me of allowing corporations to doing their EVIL ways!

        • Ernest Spoon

So am I to take it your original post was meant to be sarcastic? If it was accept my apology. Sarcasm in print form without context is indistinguishable from declaratory statement.

          • Ron Belcher

Ernest, I know what you mean! After I re-read what I posted…wow, I can see my view taken in so many a different angle!
No need to apologize. 🙂 It’s all good! 🙂
