Scottish leader demands delay in Royal Mail privatisation

Alex Salmond, leader of the Scottish National Party and First Minister in Scotland, said yesterday that there should be a moratorium on the sell-off of Britain’s universal postal service provider until the referendum on independence, which takes place September 2014.

He said postal privatisation should be delayed so that in the event of a split in the union, Scotland could keep Royal Mail assets “part-owned by the people of Scotland” in public hands.
