New Orleans postal worker sentenced to probation for mail theft

The US Attorney’s office in New Orleans reports that a postal worker who pleaded guilty to stealing money from the mail has been sentenced to one year probation.

According to court documents, on or about February 7, 2011, Chanel M. McGinnis, an employee of the United States Postal Service, embezzled $450 in United States currency that was contained in a first class letter addressed to W.B., a resident of Metairie, Louisiana.

McGinnis was also ordered to pay restitution to the victim.
