Universal service will not change under privatised Royal Mail, says minister

Business minister Michael Fallon has said the government is pushing for Royal Mail to privatise in some form during this financial year, but insisted that universal service will not be affected.As Britain’s The Times reports today that some form of float could take place as early as this Autumn, Fallon wrote at the weekend to confirm that it “should happen” in the year ending April 2014.He said since Royal Mail had a turnover of £9bn, it was “ridiculous” to deny the company the kind of access to private capital that other large firms could seek.
