Newsday reports that US Postal Service locations on Long Island are expediting morning deliveries and plan to close by mid-afternoon. The island expects major impacts from Hurricane Sandy’s storm surge and high winds:
Post office window service is expected to close at 3 p.m. Monday at all Long Island locations, she said. But officials are monitoring the storm and could close offices as needed. Delivery will be expedited during the morning hours, she said, but if the weather proves unsafe, "carriers will be advised to return back to the office, so that the mail can be kept safe during the storm."
