From The Independent: Donald Trump has issued an “order” to US companies to withdraw from China, as he suggested his own appointment as Federal Reserve chairman was a greater threat to the economy than Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Continue reading It’s hardly a new story- one set of rules for the powerful, entitled elites, and a very different one for ordinary workers. But rarely is a case so flagrant as Kellyanne Conway’s repeated violations of the Hatch Act. Continue reading In April 2018, President Trump issued an executive order creating a task force to evaluate the operations and finances of the U.S. Postal Service and to make recommendations for policy changes to ensure a sustainable future for the agency. The White House Task Force, comprised of the Secretary of Treasury and the Directors of the Office of Management and Budget and the Office of Personnel Management, reported its findings to the President on August 10 after just 120 days — and then issued a public report in December 2018. Continue reading 04/12/2019 – The APWU continues our offensive against the White House proposals to sell the Postal Service to private corporations. The lighthearted video below makes a crucial point – of all the many things the Postal Service will accept from the public, tax dollars are not one of them. The video advertisement release is in coordination with Tax Day actions all over the country on Monday, April 15. Continue reading 03/29/2019 – The White House released its plans for the fiscal year 2020 budget this month. It once again attacks workers, calling for deep cuts to salaries, retirement and health benefits. It also echoes parts of the Postal Task Force December 2018 report that calls for the elimination of union negotiated collective bargaining rights over pay, creating a postal employee pay system similar to what is seen in the federal workforce. Continue reading CHICAGO (AP) — Postal workers and their supporters spent part of the Columbus Day holiday protesting what they see as a White House push to make the U.S. Postal Service private. Continue reading Alexandria, Va. (August 30, 2018) – In response to the president’s statement today setting across-the-board and locality pay increases at zero for non-postal federal employees, NARFE President Richard G. Thissen issued the following statement: Continue reading Most observers believe that Donald Trump’s “task force” on the US Postal Service will rubber stamp the White House’s plan to privatize the agency. According to a Government Executive story posted this morning, though, it may be a while before we know exactly what’s in the plan, since Trump apparently wants the report kept under wraps until after the November elections: The Trump administration is planning to keep secret until after the mid-term elections a report delivered to the president earlier this month with suggestions for reforming the U.S. Postal Service, according to individuals with knowledge of the plan. The findings will not be made public until after the November elections, however, according to three sources made aware of the administration’s thinking. Trump directed the task force to make the recommendations actionable, either through legislation or regulation, the sources said, but is not planning to start implementation until voters elect a new Congress.
