Local post offices, businesses prepare for Cyber Monday

SOUTH BEND — Shippers and online retailers are gearing up for Cyber Monday.
We’ve entered the busiest shopping period of the season. That means the number of customers mailing and shipping is expected to increase significantly in the next few weeks.

UPS, FedEx Struggle to Keep Up With Surge in Holiday Orders

United Parcel Service Inc. and FedEx Corp. are straining to keep up with holiday shipping volumes that have blown past expectations, delaying the delivery of some of the millions of online orders shoppers have placed since Thanksgiving.

UPS has relocated hundreds of staff from its headquarters and other corporate offices to help at shipping hubs struggling to handle record demand, according to people familiar with the situation. Already in advance of the busy holiday season, both UPS and FedEx had extended delivery windows on some routes, suspended delivery guarantees and refunds for certain weeks and stopped promising to deliver express packages by a certain time in some cases. Video: Rudolph, Wisconsin post office is extra busy for holiday season

RUDOLPH (WAOW) – One central Wisconsin village is extra busy this time of year thanks to a red-nose reindeer.

Many people are rushing to the post office in Rudolph to send their holiday cards and packages. The Wood County community will send thousands of letters because of its name.

USPS ready for record Cyber Monday

WASHINGTON — Americans are expected to make Cyber Monday 2016 the largest ever and the U.S. Postal Service, the largest e-commerce deliverer, is ready.

The Postal Service will handle approximately 750 million packages this holiday season, an increase of more than 12 percent over last year. This is double the volume of packages handled just four years ago.

According to market researcher Adobe Digital Insights, Cyber Monday sales will exceed $3 billion, an increase of 9.4 percent over last year. Continue reading
