Will UPS follow the lead of FedEx and start delivering packages on Sunday? A story in the Atlanta Business Chronicle says the company has no immediate plans to do so:
Paul Steiner, vice president of strategic analysis for Atlanta-based logistics consultant Spend Management Experts, said FedEx’s move to seven-day service answers customers’ needs for faster delivery and is a “game-changer.” However, he added it “could prove costly for the company in terms of operating costs.”
“The pressure is on UPS to follow suit and they could very well follow in the not so distant future,” Steiner said.
UPS spokesperson Matthew O’Connor told Atlanta Business Chronicle Friday the company is “constantly assessing when it makes sense to expand current capabilities and operations” but has nothing to announce in terms of adding Sunday to the mix. UPS currently delivers “selected, urgent healthcare and other special deliveries on Sundays,” he said.
