PITTSBURGH, PA — Postal officials today announced, following completion of the U.S. Postal Service’s remediation efforts and compliance with environmental regulations, the Pittsburgh Network Distribution Center will begin resumption of daily mail processing operations, effective Friday, April 5.
For our Post Office Box customers, please be advised that Post Office Box operations will resume at the Pittsburgh NDC, 300 Brush Creek Road, Warrendale PA 15095, on Saturday, April 6.
Retail and Window operations, normally closed on weekends, will resume Monday, April 8.
On Sunday, March 24, the U.S. Postal Service temporarily discontinued daily mail processing operations at the facility following receipt of an improperly mailed package containing mercury. The Postal Service immediately implemented its established emergency preparedness procedures for such an event, including diverting mail to other mail processing facilities in the surrounding area.
In the interim, postal management has worked with professional environmental contractors and regulators to evaluate, clean and certify the safety of the plant. Our remediation efforts and compliance with environmental regulations have been completed.
The mailstream has remained safe throughout the temporary suspension. We apologize to customers who may have experienced temporary service issues and assure them that we continue to make progress every day toward restoring normal operations. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers, suppliers, and mailing partners.
