Fresno mail truck carjacking suspect arrested after breaking into a business

FRESNO, California – A bizarre series of events unfolded Saturday afternoon, starting near Fresno State when a man assaulted a letter carrier to steal his truck. The suspect crashed the truck minutes later, but it wasn’t until he broke into a nearby business when authorities finally caught up and arrested him.

Loi Tran, owner of cell phone repair business Cell Tech, was with a customer when he heard glass breaking. He went outside to see a neighboring business being broken into — and the suspect, while on the ground, being surrounded by police.

“I knew the first thing I had to do was take out my phone because I know I won’t be [seeing] this ever again,” Tran said.

Police were already on the suspect’s tail because he crashed a mail truck near Fairmont and Maroa avenues. Lt. Ron Hughes said the suspect carjacked the mail truck on Shaw Avenue near Fresno State.
