Remains stolen from local post office, cremation company pleads for help

LAS VEGAS – A local cremation company is pleading for the public’s help after a thief stole the remains of three people from a valley post office Friday.

Las Vegas Cremations general manager Philip Smith said he’s shocked something like this could ever happen.

“While it may not have any value to you,” Smith said. “It’s priceless to the family.”

Smith told 8 News Now one of his employees went to The United States Post Office at Decatur Boulevard and Smoke Ranch Road to send the cremated remains out of state Friday.

When she got out of her car, he told us someone pulled up next to her in another car, snatched the three bags and drove away. The Las Vegas Cremations employee tried to catch up to the thief, but the person got away.

The remains were NOT stolen from a local post office. They were stolen from a car which was parked at the local post office. Typical misleading derogatory headline.
