A flooded post office does not mean the mail stops, according to David Rupert, with the United States Postal Service corporate communications.
About 6 p.m., postal workers at the Aberdeen office were setting up caution tape and rerouting customers dropping off packages, while water poured out of the building, according to an American News reporter on scene.
The cause of the flooding is unknown, Rupert said, but he assured all mail is safe.
“We’re protecting the mail,” he said by phone Friday evening. “We’ll assess delivery in the morning.”
Ruper said deliveries will go out in the area Saturday, but they might be limited, depending on what is learned about the water damage to the building.
Workers on scene could not comment on when or where the flooding started.
