Iowa postmaster avoids prison time for theft, fraud

NORA SPRINGS | A former Nora Springs postmaster charged with 44 federal counts for allegedly stealing from the post office will not be going to prison.

DeAnn C. Lewman was put on probation for five years after pleading guilty to one count of making a false entry. Two counts of misappropriation of postal funds and 41 additional counts of making a false entry were dismissed.

Lewman was ordered to pay a $500 fine and $6,061 restitution.
