From the New York Post:
The lazy Queens mailman who always rang … well, never, has gone from “overwhelmed” to oversleeping.
Daniel Darby, who federal authorities say tossed out a heap of Christmas cards and gifts last year instead of delivering them, was nearly 40 minutes late to court Thursday to face the misdemeanor charges against him.
The post-postman was chided by Judge Steven Gold for his tardiness just before he pleaded not guilty in Brooklyn federal court.
Prosecutors said Darby was “overwhelmed” by the uptick in his holiday workload last December while on the first day of a new route.
So the stressed-out Ozone Park mail dumper allegedly stopped by a Stop & Shop and bought three white garbage bags to toss the mail in the trash.
A United States Postal Service spokeswoman confirmed Darby no longer works there.
