ENID, Okla. — A 33-year-old Enid woman and former Waukomis Post Office employee was charged Wednesday with felony embezzlement.
Megan Denise Choate was charged and a warrant issued for her arrest in Garfield County District Court.
According to an affidavit filed in the case, USPS Office of the Inspector General Special Agent Gregory Laffin received a referral Jan. 27 about a review of returned checks to Waukomis Post Office by Choate.
On Feb. 23, a USPS OIG Special Agent reviewed all returned insufficient funds checks deposited by Choate into USPS-owned checking accounts and found 16 checks were deposited between June 2015 and January 2016, according to the affidavit. The loss to the USPS from the 16 checks totaled $5,245. The checks were all drawn on two accounts, both owned by Choate.
