Postal employees stop money order scam

Mt. Pleasant, SC, Retail Associate Daniel Richardson knew what to do when a woman recently tried to cash an altered money order for $1,000.

Earlier, Richardson had read a Postal Inspection Service warning about money order counterfeiters operating in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.

Richardson asked the woman to step out of line. He alerted Postmaster Steven Krause, who called 911 the Inspection Service.

Within minutes, Mt. Pleasant police and Inspector Leah Moody arrived and arrested the suspect.
