Carmichael, California — Congressman Ami Bera met with U.S. Postal Service mail carrier Scott Gallegos, who was hailed a hero after saving a woman’s life in April.
On the morning of April 27, Gallegos had just started on his morning route when suddenly a woman covered in blood knocked on his window. The Iraq veteran quickly moved his mail truck between the woman and the gunman and tended to her wounds.
“I think a lot of it was instinct and maybe just human nature. I mean, she was hurt, and she needed help,” Gallegos said.
Because of Gallegos’ brave actions, the woman made a full recovery. Earlier this month, he received the National Association of Letter Carriers’ “Hero of the Year” award in Washington, D.C.
