As search for NY prison escapees continues, so does mail delivery

The Plattsburgh Press Republican in New York’s North Country reports that the search for two escaped convicts from the state prison in Dannemora is now concentrated near the hamlet of Mountain View. While hundreds of law enforcement officers have descended on the area, however, the mail still goes through:

Brainardsville Postmistress Joan Dumont is filling in today at the small Post Office in Bellmont, and said the mail was delivered today in the search zone.

On her way to work today, she drove through three checkpoints.

“There are so many camp people, and they’re scared to death.

“We’re so far in the boondocks and only 10 minutes from the Canadian border. I just wish they’d get caught and … go back to jail.”

In nearby Whippleville, Postmistress Shirley Traynor said that Cathy LaValley, who delivers mail to about 40 boxes in the Wolf Pond Road area near the sighting, has a police ATV escort.
