EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. -It looks like a typical, small post office. But, for David Silvia, there’s one very important thing missing at a U.S. Post Office in East Providence – a ramp.“I feel discriminated against,” Silvia. “You can walk up those stairs, go to the post office, and do your business. I can’t. In 2015, I think that’s terrible.
”There are only stairs outside the front of the post office across on Grove Avenue. That doesn’t work for Silvia, who requires a scooter to get around.
Postal Service Spokeswoman Christine Dugas told NBC 10 News the building is one of a number of local post offices that don’t have ramps.“Of course, we would love it if we could make every facility accessible, but there’s no funding to do that,” Dugas said.
