Colorado: Man Using Postal Uniform To Steal Mail

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says a man went to great lengths to commit identity theft.

Thursday, deputies found a stolen gray Dodge Challenger parked at the Village Inn on Garden of the Gods Road. Whoever had taken it reportedly made the effort to file down the license plate and then use stencils to create a fake plate. He didn’t stop at plate numbers–allegedly swiped from a second Dodge Challenger–deputies say the suspect gave himself that other driver’s "Honorably Discharged Veteran" distinction. Deputies were able to use the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to trace the vehicle back to an Englewood, Colo. Enterprise Rent-A-Car, which had reported the car stolen.

Inside the car, deputies found a postal worker uniform and evidence that the suspect had been stealing mail from the Quail Lake Loop area.
