Video: Working in the Cold: Follow Eau Claire employees who brave bitter conditions

Eau Claire (WQOW) – The thought of walking from your house to your car and into work probably made many of you want to crawl right back under the covers Monday morning. But, there were some whose work meant spending hours in the freezing cold.

Monday, WQOW News 18 followed a letter carrier and a sanitation worker on their routes. “You know it’s really cold when you’re eyelashes freeze shut. Just put lots of layers on and have an extra cup of coffee,” says letter carrier Brian Berge.

He walks from house to house in temps so brutal it could only take about about fifteen minutes for frostbite to set in. Something Berge is thankful he’s never experienced. He says, “Knock on wood, no I haven’t. I think keeping the blood flowing and keeping most things covered helps.”
