Video: 72-Year old Florida postal clerk hit while crossing street on his way to work

CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) — A 72-year old postal clerk headed to work was hit by an car on a Coral Gables street on Friday morning.

The victim had just put in his notice to retire at the end of the year after being with the U.S. Postal Service for 41 years.

Coral Gables Police said the man was crossing Andalusia Avenue near Salzedo Street just after 8:00 a.m.

Meantime, police said, a silver Jeep 4-door was attempting to parallel park. While backing into the spot, the car hit the clerk.

Witnesses said they heard a woman’s panicked screams then saw a man lying on the street bleeding from his head.

Officers said the driver stayed on the scene and cooperated with authorities.

The victim suffered serious head trauma and was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.
