Jury convicts former Louisiana postal service employee for stealing gift cards from the mail

KATC TV in Lafayette, Louisiana reports that mail processing clerk Crystal S. Boutte of Lafayette has been convicted of mail theft. Boutte had been employed by the USPS since 1998.

US-Department-Of-Justi_fmtAfter a three-day trial, a federal jury found a Lafayette woman guilty of taking gift cards from U.S. mail, according to United States Attorney Stephanie Finley.

After deliberating for a little over an hour, a federal jury found Crystal S. Boutte, 41, of Lafayette, guilty on two counts of theft of mail. In December of 2012, Boutte stole four Wal-Mart gift cards from the mail while working for the U.S. Postal Service. One gift card was worth $200, and the other three were worth $25 each.

Boutte faces five years in prison, three years of supervised release, restitution, and a $250,000 fine for each count.
