For years we’ve been pointing out the truth of the US Postal Service’s financial situation: the massive “losses” the service reports exist only on paper (and in the minds of the PMG and some politicians.) The losses have nothing to do with actual operations, and they don’t reflect any money changing hands- Congress created them, and Congress can make them go away.
It looks like the Wall Street Journal, the de facto voice of the Republican Party, agrees with us now:
The USPS has generated about $1 billion in operating profit so far this year, but that is before its approximate $5.5 billion required annual contribution for retiree benefits.
I don’t think you can get any more official than that, can you?
