Abandoned backpack closes East Texas PO

A post office in Rye Texas, about 70 miles northeast of Houston, was closed for several hours early Friday morning after a backpack was found abandoned in the lobby:

Due to the placement of the backpack, which was wedged under a desk and behind a cross bar, the post office was closed around 7:15 a.m. while law enforcement checked the item to determine if it was a bomb.

Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and task force members of the Baytown and Pasadena police departments were called to the scene to assist. The item was X-rayed and determined to be clothing.
