Jury finds Oregon letter carrier guilty of groping, burglary

Daniel Gray, an Albany mailman accused of groping an elderly widow last August, was found guilty of first-degree sex abuse and first-degree burglary on Friday night, according to Linn County Circuit Court staff.

During closing arguments, Deputy District Attorney Ani Yardumian noted the he said/she said nature of the case, but said the victim was telling the truth.

Gray had claimed that he simply hugged the woman.

“Something happened to this woman to terrify her, and it wasn’t a hug,” Yardumian said.

Gray’s sentencing is set for 8:30 a.m. July 1.

First-degree sex abuse is a Measure 11 offense that carries a mandatory minimum prison sentence of more than six years in prison.
